TO RETIRING COMMISSIONERS.

NAPIER, MayVl2. A crowded gathering greeted theUw.o departing commissioners of Messrs J. S. Barton and L. B. CainW bell, at a valedictory ceremony -arrang' ed by the Mayor, to-night. Mr Morse referred to the fine re- i cord set by the commissioners in the last two years, and paid a tribute to the spirit of co-operation which dominated their association with the people of Napier.
Other speakers concurred iii the sentiments expressed by the Mayor and at the conclusion Mr Barton was presented with a silver kiwi mounted on a base, the whole forming a paper weight, made by a local silversmith, aiid Mr Campbell was presented with beautiful cutglass decanter and glasses'. Each suitable responded.
