SEACH FOR GOLD
j EXTRACTION FROM BOULDERS. RESULTS AT COROMANDEL, COROMANDEL, April 22. All the available ore from the boulders found near the Coromandel Hospital has " now been treated at the Union Beach battery for the Coromandel County Council. It was found that the crust of the boulders was the • ■-rtVr.SV ilfcSWtt-’ 1 richest part, the inside not being nearly so payable.. The o’r| f averaged about an ounce to the ton, the saving being 60 per cent of the values. Recovery of the balance would be possible only by cyanide treatment, which cannot be done at Coromandel. The supervisor, Mr F. H. Shepherd, states that boring on the spot to a depth of 20 feet lias not disclosed any j further ore underground. It is intend- j ed to sink a shaft on private property near by and then drive in an easterly direction with the object of meeting the reef from which the boulders are supposed to have come. The return put iri to the mining executive shows that nine tons of ore were treated for an estimaed return of £’27. Residues worth about £8 will not be treated.
