A motor-truck owned and driven by Mr H. J. Henderson, w;s destroyed by fii’e ].a«t night.
The vehie'e, which was fully loaded with wliitp pine timber, was prbeef i"»g toward Te Kuiti, when the engine backfired, blowing She carburetter of. Within <° minute the front of the truck was a mas.? of flames. Owing to the nature of the Jo n d. the fire spread very quickly, until, the truck was a roaring mass of flames.
The fire bur ye, L cel g -for about five hours, and as the lorry was in the middle of the road, traffic was IHd up until about thr e e o’clock this morning. The heat was so intense tint the ironwork of the ilorrv was bent and twisted, and at one tjme the differential and rear axle wer e wniie hot. The driver and a passenger were able to jump clear as soon as the vehicle caught fire.
