PLUNKET CONTEST CONCLUDES

SCHOOL CANDIDATE SECOND

After several weeks’ campaign to raise funds for the erection of PJunket rooms in (Hokitika, the popular b a by contest, .for which there wcr e foul’ candidates, arranged and organised by committees on behalf of the respective candidates, concluded yesterday, the final toward the interests of the candidates being received just before 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Th e contest was won by the .Sports baby with 18,811 votes, the State School baby being second with 15,915. The South Westland baby and Catholic School baby were third and fourth respectively their votes being 14,328 and 13,444. The total amount of money raised as a result of -the contest is £260 8,3 2d, the individual amounts credited to the Perspective candidates being .Sports £7B 7s 7d, 'State School £66 6s 3d, South Westfand £53 14s Od, Catholic School £56 0 S 4d.

The candidates for the contest were; 'Sports—Jean, daughter of Mr and Mrs ,S. Havijl, of Callaghans; State School Jean, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Howot Hall (Street, Hokitika; South Westland—Sheila, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Williams, 0 f W«heka ; Catholic School—Yvonne, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Oliver, Hampden Street, Hokitika.

The P.Umket branch ar e highly gratified at the result and desire to thank one and all who have in any way assisted by contribution and service toward this effort.

The campaign will definitely close to-night with a carnival dance in the Soldiers' Hall.
