The “Sun” learns that a statement is being prepared, outlining Britain’s interpretation of tho Free State’s position from May 3, when the oath disappears.
Jt is a highly complicated and constitutional position wherein the Free State retains its membership of the Empire, enjoying privileges apart from Ottawa, ami Irishmen remaining British subjects.
Under the Anglo-Irish Treaty, the BalJour Declaration and the Statute of Westminister, secession is only possible by the declaration of a republic, dependent upon Ulster’s willingness to unite, and the Free State becoming self supporting, of which there is little prospect
