There is no hqws of a petition on behalf of Thornton and MacDonald, hut the Foreign Office to-day • authorised British Ernbessv officials to visit them at- Sokolinlcu prison on Monday. Under the Tsars, this -was reputedly one of the worst masons in Russia. Tt was rebuilt under the Soviet and it is rv'one of the show ~ls.ro; as the model prison with gardens f-nd workshops.
