Hotel Transfer.—Mr J. Caliari has disposed of the Commercial Hotel, Kauieri, to Mr Ed. Smith, of Brunnerton. The sale was effected by Mr G. McKenzie yesteiday, the price being a very satisfactory one. Presbyterian Church.—The Rev. J. C. Jamieson, who has accepted the call of the Presbyterian Church will be inducted here next week at a special mooting. .After the service a social will be held in the hall. All Saints’ Choir.—At All Saints’ Church this week there was a large attendance to hear Sir John Staines’ cantata, “The Crucifixion,” rendered by the choir. There was a full choir. Miss Marion Davis presided at the organ while Miss P. Dowell and Messrs W. Bray and J. B. Ward were the soloists. A quartette, Misses P. Dowell and B. Thompson and Messrs Bray and Ward,., contributed “God So Loved the Wurld.”
Deer Shooting.—The first fallow deer shot on ..the Coast was killed on Thursday evening : when Mr Walter Mirfln, accompanied by the Rev. Me* Dowell obtained, ax fine buck of bine points. Mr Mirflri:holds the only license yet issued. ; Mining in Westland.— Reporting on the salient features of the economic geology of New Zealand, Dr J. ■ M. ■ Bell says that there is a small reef- " ing area near the head of the "Wilber* ~ force and Arahura rivers, known as the Westland reefs, 'district, m which a number of promising auriferous quartz veins have recently been di<covered, but which have so far lecn prospected to no very marked degree.
Acclimatisation.—The annual meeting was held this week, Dr Teich dmnnn presiding. The report stated, inter alia, that: red deer wote iepor« ed to be doing well ami spreading. They had made their appea; u.ce at the Teremakau settlement, no doubt having come from the Kameri Lake herd. The following officers wc-re elected:—President, Dr E. Teiu.H* mann; vice-presidents’ Mr A. R. Lmg and Rev. J. G. Ellis; council, Dis Teichelmann and Macandrew, Mess.’s Newman, Boyd, T. W. Bruce, A. B King, J. King, J. Lloyd, J. J. McIntosh, A. N. Harrop, C. Preston and D. J. Evans; hon treasurer, Mr W. Winchester.
Telephonic.—A tColnne office las been opened by Messrs Adamson and Dennehv’s flax mi!!, Wararoa Flat,' South Westland. . The' new office is named Rotokino.
Sporting.—Bookmakers requiring licenses for the Kumara races must make application, to the secretary (Mr W. B. Gilbert), before to-morrow evening. Lawn Tennis.—The West Coasrfc Lawn Tennis Association championships! were held on. tin; local courts, but heavy ruin for two days caused those events undecided to be abandoned. Results of decided events were: —Men’s doubles, Dray and McLean (Grey); ladies’ doubles Mrs Williams and " Miss L. Michel (Hokitika); ladies’ singles, Miss J. Bailie (Westport) ■; combined doubles, McLean (Grey) and Miss Bailie (Westport).
