AT ABBOTSFORD RAILWAY STATION.

DUNEDIN, April 19

At 3.25 o’clock this morning,, a terrific ,explosion awakened tli.e fire si clents of Abbotsford. It was heard at Green Island, a mile away. -At 7 o’clock, u railway clerk coming- from Dunedin, found Abbotsford station partially wrecked, the safe was blown and about £3B missing. The force of the explosion was such that it wrecked many office, furnishings, lifting the roof several inches from the joists. Gelignite was used, and was obtained from the Jubilee coal mine at Fairfield, where two magazines were rifled of>42 plugs and 90 detonators. It i.s asstfindd that the. operators Were rank amateurs' for 6 plugs were used on the safe.
