AGREEMENT ON MAIN POINTS.

WELLINGTON, April 7. • In the course of an interview to-day concerning the trade treaty with AusMr Coates expressed entire satisfaction with the manner in which the negotiations have been carried out. it haa not been passible for him to acquaint his colleagues iu the Cabinet with all that had been done, but he would do so at an early date. The terms of the treaty would be ‘announced in •Australia and New Zealand, simultaneously. Iu reply to & question as to whether, the Government will consider calling the Row Zealand Parliament together specially to deal with the matter he said that such a course was unlikely. He did not think it would be wise to ask Parliament to meet before the time, already stipulated. , Mr Coates said there naturally had been differences of opinion during the negotiations, but, generally the work had been carried out in a satisfactory manner, and ho thought that when the terms were ‘announced, it would he found the agreement- would be largely acceptable to both sides. As far possible, every endeavour had been . made to reach an understanding on. the points at issue. • It is understood that agreement was reached on practically all the main points, although it is likely that- one or two matters will be subjected to further negotiation between the two countries; but it will be possible to carry these out without direct contact.
