AUCKLAND, April 5
Commenting to-day on the Assessment Court, which has been hearing a large number of ratepayers’ objections, the city valuer said that, from the evidence given, there appeared to he no stable values in Auckland. All lie. could do was try to keep the values in uniformity as. much as possible, so that one section of the ratepayers would not be penalised by another section lodging objections. The only surprises were the remarkably low value,-, placed on properties by gome estate agents, wbo gave evidence. When, the same people were selling the properties, a few years ago, they had the different story to tell. Valuers and owners, when objecting, stressed all the bad featuies. The city valuer added that lie. could not yet say what the reductions made by the Court amounted to. It- wou-d V-4 for the city council to decide whether the mtes should he increased to make up for the loss of revenue that reduction,s represented.
