CLAIM FOR £250 DAMAGES,

WELLINGTON, April 6
The -hearing commenced at the Magistrate’s Court of a claim by John Brown, a seaman, fo r £250 damages, from the Federal''.Seamen’s Union, the president of the union, and twelvei members o f the crew‘ 'of the Waihemo. Plaintiff alleges lig was boatswain of the Waihemo from February 16 toSeptember 1, 1932, and that on August 31 defendants conspired to induce the owners of the ves s el t 0 discontinue employing plaintiff -by objecting and refusing to sail on the vcsseil while plaintiff was employed! on her.
H e also alleged the president a»d union wer, e; parties to a conspiracy in that they advised worke-rs that plaintiff had worked as a free labourer during the 1921 istnike. In consequence of this action, plaintiff states, he hag been*, prevented from following his occup a ~ tion and earning a livelihood as ai 6eaman.
