WOOL SALE AT WELLINGTON

WELLINGTON, April 3.

The wool sale opened to-day to the keenest of competition. There was a large attendance, buyers representing all markets. T'lis offering w.as 11,415 bales, and passings were rare. The wool submitted was of the usual end of •season quality. The tone of the market win strong from the outset, and’ pricsn showed a rise of a halfpenny to three-farthings. Crossbred was in she it supply and met with exceptionally keen competition from London and Japan, Bradford also holding good limits for this class of wool. A few lines of line style hiilfbred were in strong demand, and made ltinepence to tenpence halfpenny.

Medium to low crossbreds appear to be worth a half-penny more, but any average of -prices is subject to revision on the making up of the official range. The lambs’ wool market showed a decide:! firmness, and such wools can he quoted at a, half-penny dearer. Skirtings were exceedingly linn at late rates.

English buyers were keenly interested in fine crossbreds and crossbreds. The ‘German buying was noticeably restrained, and was strictly limited.

France as usual was air eager purchaser of good style skirting. New Zealand manufacturers were not active buyers as there were practically no wools offering that were suitable to their requirements. The sale promises to conclude with an advance of a half-penny to threefarthihgr, for the majority of wools submitted, when a. comparison comes to be made with the offerings at Wellington in March 9.
