BRITISH MARKETING BILL

In tile House of Commons, the Agricultural Marketing Bill of the' Government was read the second: time by 314 votes to 62.
: Twenty-two Liberals, beaded by Sir Herbert Samuel voted against the Government oil the measure.
Labour opposed the' Bill. Its attitude was based on the belief that tlie proposed control of imports into Britain will raise the price level against the consumers.
Major Elliot, on behalf of the Government, stated that lie was aware there i.s (anxiety among tlie British farmers at the announcement that the Government are prepared to allow the maintenance of tlie present quota of bacon imports, from Deiimaik in return for increased purchases by Denmark of British product's. It was not, however, the intention of tlie Government to conclude any agreement that would be inconsistent with its declared policy of ail expansion of the bacon industry in Britain.
