CHILLED BEEF

FURTHER CONSIGNMENTS

SUCCESS OF EXPERIMENT.

MASTERTON, March 27

“In view of the gratifying success of our recent experimental shipment we have now definitely decided to make further shipments of chilled beef from New Zealand,” stated Mr P. J. Borthwiek, director of Eorthwick’s Ltd. The next shipment might not be made this year, as he doubted whether the type of beef required was available during the winter months. Full consideration als 0 would have to be given to detailed reports, from England concerning the recent shipment.

It was satisfactry to note, he said, that the Port Fairy had proved herself “100 per cent” by carrying to the English market two successful consignments of chilled beef, one from Australia and one from New Zealand. Questioned regarding London requirements in chilled beef, Mr Borthwick said he had obtained reports from scientists and experts in tiie chilled beef industry.- Personally, lie thought that the farmers would find they could" run their cows on hill country .and graze the calves on their fertile land. Calved could be weaned •>t nine months and be ready for the butcher at two years. Generally speaking, lie was quite hopeful ,■ regarding the prospects of the industry for Dominion farmers. . ~.
