HOKITIKA LADIES’ MEETING

REVIEW OF THE PAST SEASON

.Several matters concerning the wed--.fare of the club were enthusiastically, discussed. It was decided to play The qualifying round of the club championship this year in July. This will obviate any delay which might b e caused by the West 'Coast championship being

■ phved on th 3 home links in Auguat. The tea • day arrangements were conside red .satisfactory and a unanimous •vote to that effect was passed. It was decided to hold a ‘‘bring and buy” afternoon at the club house on iApril.'Sth in aid of the sport, 5 baby. Putting approaching and driving competitions will be held, and afternoon tea will be provided, for which there will be a small charge. A substantial grant was given to the Men’s Club to b e vised on the construction of the new holes which are cat present being prepared. The meeting closed with th e usual vote of thanks t 0 th e - outgoing committee and to the chair.

The .annual report was as follows;

The season parsed off very successfully. Weather conditions were ideal (incidentally there were thirty-three consecutive frosts this being undoubtedly a record). As a consequence the Jinks were .in good condition and these combined factors helped materially towards the financial success of ou.r tea days, also permitting all matches to be played to 'schedule.

The balance sheet presents a very satisfactory credit balance. • Ladies’- Golf Union; The L.G-U. membership this past season reached 37, this-being the Largest number of L.G-U. players the club has h a d. Several players had substantial reductions in handicaps, .and the silver medal division this season had competition for the medal. In addition to the ab°ve mentioned reductions the committee welcome five junior players who gained thei r L.G.U. status duping the s eas on, all promising players. Matches: The club championship wag won by Miss King, Miss Houston being runner-up. Silver medal, Miss King; Bronze medal, Mrs Caliari ; Gfbss e'cftctic, JM* Baker; nett ecl&eUC' Miss Adamson; gtaveley Cup, Mrs Neville.

Miss King was the winner of the Coronation (Medal for 1932 and'’accordingly received' many v .congratulations, a§ well, as a gift from ,the club as a memento of the .memorable occasion.'

'Another ’interesting event of the season was a “hole in one,” at The Topknot, Mrs W. Wilson being the player to accomplish this feat. Mrs Wilson generously 'entertained the club in recognition of the achievement. Monthly bogey matches were- played during the s-ecson in addition to the monthly medals. Other matches played for donated trophies were: —Flag match and approaching and putting competitions.

A ladies’ team visited 'Greymouth in the season but the Greymouth team proved too istrong for our local team. A very pleasant day was spent how-

ever. Mixed foursomes were played on i ODcning. and closing days, also a midseason bisque foursome which proved xcr-T ponnlar. The West Con s t championship meeting was played at Westport. Our club was represented 'by six players ( all taking part in various events during the meeting. Miss King and Migo Wilson •represented the 'club at the delegates’ meeting. Unearned handicap division; This division has a membership of seventeen. Tlhie is a very interesting division, .all members being anxious, to reduce handicaps and gain L.G.U. status. Miss Bell (IMi’s Brass) was the winner ipf the championship in the above grade, Miss A; Mclntosh being runnerup. Monthly modal matches and bogey matches were played throughout the ; season, all keenly” contested. In addition an eclectic sheet was kept, and a donated trophy given for tho best eclectic of the season. An approaching and putting competition were also held. . The committee regrets having had to offer, on behalf of the club, sympathy to three club members who suffered | family bereavements, Mrs Butler, Mrs ■oox and Mi's ,1 0. (Macfarlane. In conclusion they wish to thank all ladies for their co-operation at a!I times during the season, also those who so kindly donated trophic*. They wish also to thank the Hokitika Guardian management for their unfailing courtesy in publishing oq r reports and matches ; the County Council for the vise of their rooms for meetings and to the men’s club W'& extend thanks for their courtesy to u,s on medal match clays, when i they ‘'giv 0 w.ay” to the la die* on the links.

tlie officers were re-elected. In nominating Mr J. C. Macfarlane as dub captain, the secretary (Mr YV. E. Brown) reminded members that this would be hi.s 23rd. consecutive year of office and pointed out the many voluntary acts performed and the frequent visits made throughout the year by Mr Macfarlane. His re-election to j office w.s confirmed with applause. The following -new members wore elected;—lndies, Mesdames E. H Andrews, W. E. Brown, Misses M. E. Anderson, N. ■ Chester man, Anne P Duff, Houston, N. Pitt, N. Stephens, M. Stephens, Messrs 11. A. Bell, 11. Davis, L. Kern alia n, ,1. C. E. McClusky, C. ;f. iveese, C. W. iloutk'dgo*, and Dr. T. Childs. No resignations were received. It was decided to again suspend for the ensuing year the payment of looker 'and match fees amounting to os for men and 2s Gd for ladies.
