BOXING
NICOL DEFEATS SINGLETON.
INVERCARGILL, March 27
A fifteen-round professional heavyweight boxing contest between George Singleton (Australia) 13.5 and Raj Nicol (Ohai) 12.6 was staged here this evening and ended in the tenth round, Singleton being counted out. The bout was not very ■ intersting, with Nicol holding an advantage in points.
In the tenth round Nicol drove a right to Singleton’s body, and as Nicol came over their heads met, the Australian going down to be counted, out. Singleton is suffering from a fractured bone in the front of the jaw, and he may not be able to enter the ring for some months.
SULLIVAN V. DAWSON
A preliminary ten-round professional bout between Billy Sullivan (Hastings) 12.6 and Frank Dawson (Australia) 12.3 was won by Sullivan, tlie refereee stopping the bout in the ninth round. The Australian at that stage was in a bad way, after taking heavy !yi thh (preceding two rounds.
