An attempted robbery under- arms was made e.t Grant’s store, at Puerua, at three yesterday morning. In answer to a knocking at his residence, Grant opened a door, when lie wrs confronted by a man who asked for petrol for his car. He. was muffled about the face.
Grant proceeded to obtain the petrol, when the man. produced a resolver and dazzling him with a powerful torch demanded the.keys of the safe. Grant knocked the man’s hard aside, and dashed into tho house for a weapon..
Tlie intruder then retired hurriedly by, car.
Later, it was reported that a car bad been removed from a garage at Balclutha during the night, and had been found undamaged, near the railway station.
