Combined action by local bodies to obtain some redress in regard to rates on properties leased from or moi ed to tlie Crown is proposed by the Manukau County Council. At yesterday’s meeting of tlie council the clerk, Mr E. 11. Ashcroft, was instructed to circularise other county and borough councils to obtain figures relating to the loss of rates on Crown

properties. ‘•The position is really serious,” ,ird Mr Ashcroft. “Tlie figures would he so startling: that the Government would be forced to remedy the position by amending tlie present unfair legislation.” jt. was decided to consider holding a conference of loan bodies following ioceipt of the figures asked for.
