EIGHT KILLED

MOTOR WORKS EXPLOSION

PARIS, March 18.

The Renault motor morks at Billancourt, a suburb, of Paris, was this morning the scene of a terrible explosion which killed eight men and injured over 100. -

Adjoining the tool shops, where some hundred men work, was a building containing a big boiler about 30ft. high. Without warning one of the pipes leading from the boiler burst, filling the shops with a cloud of steam. Simultaneously the explosion blew off the roof and demolished the wall dividing the boiler house from the workshops.

A scene of panic followed as the men, blinded by the steam, tried to escape from the masonry and pieces of iron and steel roofing which were crashing down. The fire brigade was quickly on the spot, and when it was possible to eloav away the wreckage it was found that eight men had either been scalded to death or killed by the falling debris:
