NEWS IN PRISONS

BRITISH WEEKLY EXPERIMENT.

LONDON, March 22

An experiment to keep prisoners abreast of outside events will shortly be started in Parkhurst Prison and Exeter Gaol.

There will be provided a weekly newspaper of two typewritten foolscap sheets, summarising world news, and rigorously excluding crime reports. Th e newspaper will give prominence to football and cricket results.

The idea was initiated by the Prison Commissioners, who consider the present method of the governor or chaplain reading the news to be unsatisfactory as many .prisoners are not able to assimilate ,it,. Even men good memory -cannot remember it. If the plan is successful it will be extended to other prisons.
