CHRISTCHURCH, March 23

Details of a new scheme which provides for the employment of registeredunemployed men .by gold mining companies and syndicates, on a subsidised basis, were released yesterday by Mr R. T. Bailey,, officer in charge of theLabour .. Department. Under the new N-o 8b scheme, the subsidy offered by the. .Unemployment Board is 20s per week for., each, married -man and v ss for each -single mail removed from the unemployed on approved prospecting work. •

A circular issued by the board states: ‘‘Any applicants for assistance under this scheme should be advised communicate direct tvith 'the Under-Secretary, * Mines Department, M ellingtoh, who has available the necessary forms of'application, which he will be pleased to forward to any company or syndicate desirous of taking' advantage of the subsidised labour available under this scheme. “It should be understood,- of course, that the assistance, granted to companies 'and syndicates under this scheme is in the nature of « repayable advance, in that .10 per cent of the gold won, np to the amount: of subsidy naid, is to be refunded to the Unemployment Fund, and that the companies undertake not to pay any dividends until the total subsidy paid by the hoard is refunded to the Unemployment Fund.”
