Disturbing the .serenity of 'Haining ■Street shortly befor e 11.30 last night, a large, force of police forc;ed open the heavily barricaded doors 'of two houses, suspected of harbouring opit'm emokeiV. Nine occupants were irres ted. The 1 arrival of the police oaused something of a panio ) and in one house, a Chinese was eventually hound hrd.ing among the rafters of a ceiling.
The system of the barricade was elaborate. A heavy steel mesh lined the insides of aJ; th € doors and windows. These, w ith wooden and iron bars, made tli,' , task of the police difficult.
