Decective-,Sergeant McHugh said accused had been released from the Waikeria Boistal institution last December. The manager of Johns, Limited, who knew ham, decided to afford him an opportunity and gave him a position as salesman. In January it was discovered that accursed had been stealing and he wijy dismissed on January 18. Accused had continued to go round collecting accounts, failing to pay in the money.
“Accused has been living a wild life,” concluded Air AlcHugh. “There is nothing I. call ally for him. He has had his chance.”
The magistrate, Mr F. K. Hunt, read accused’s list of previous convictions, which showed that accused had been convicted- of theft and false pretences. Accused was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. “1 here are other charges pending against this man,” said Detective■S'ergeant AlcHugh when Carl John Peter Neilson, aged 22, salesman, appeared on a charge of stealing a machine, valued at £lO, the property of Electrolux, Limited. Accused was remanded for a week.
When Alexander James Binnie, aged 40, salesman, was charged with stealing a coat valued at £3, the property of Y. Wilkins, on November 19, it was stated that accused was at present serving a. prison isentenco and the oh' nf rg /y was brought to clear the matter up. Bionic was convicted and discharged.
