N.Z. BUTTER
EXPERT ADVICE
DEFINITE BRAND URGED UPON. f Per Press Association — Copyright.) WELLINGTON, March 15. “1 think one can say quite definitely that there is a turn in the tide,’’ said Mr Joseph Salmon, director or Lyon# and Company, London, who arrived to-dayi .by the Rangitane. “There is certainly more confidence. People are showing more courage in business. Industries which were hit very hard, such as wool, cotton, gteel, certainly have improved since the tariffs.-”
Referring to New Zealand’ butterMr Salmon e-aid that he was quite certain that other butters .were being sold as the New Zealand product. strongly criticised. the practice • in some quarters of putting Dominion butter on the market a s Empire barter. He said the only way to hold the public demand was to work to a definite brand, showing tT©w »e*tanu as the country of origin. Only one quality, the beet, should be exported
Oh no account should inferior qualities be sent home, or otherwise, the Wgh reputation which New Zealand, fane built up in the past would, be lost completely. Quality for quality the best New Zealand butter was better than thp Danish but the Danes had a great advantage in being itfuch closer to .the market. There was no doubt that fresh butter appealed to the consumer, even if it" cost a little more. Mr Salmon said the industrial centre of 'England (had begun to move to wards the south, and a very serious position had arisen in thos e parts of the country .where the older industries were located, consequent upon the depletion of their population.
