NEW YORK, March 14. • At least 1000 banking institutions throughout the United State s re-opened for normal business to-day, under the Federal and State licenses. Three hundred and .forty opened on Monday. iMany more will resume on Wednesday. Many other bank 6 ar e operating under the restrictions, pending approval by the 'State and Federal agencies.
The pound jumped thre e and oneeighth cents to-day, closing at 345.1-8. The Canadian dollar closed threeeighths down at 83.3-8. It is definitely announced that the ■stock e xchange will re-open to-mci’-row. Certain restrictions will remain in force.
Joseph W. Harriman, chairman of the board of directors of the Harriman National Bank and Trust Company, was attested to-day on a charge of having caused false entries to be made in the books with intent to deceive the comptroller of currency and his agents. The stock' exchange to-day directed all members to be ready to resume business on Wednesday, The restriction apply principally to gold and foreign exchange.
