GOLD PROSPECTING
HOKITIKA COMMITTEE MEETS
The committee of the Hokitika District Prospecting Association met. la.it evening when there were present Messrs A. H. Lawn (chairman), A. Hyndman, M. Keenan, G. Sutherland, J. J. Mclntosh, W. Boyd, E. Heenan, and N. Wairen (secretary). Tho minutes or the previous meeting were read and confirmed and outward correspondence approved. Mr Heenan reported I on. work done on South Terrace. An area of ten acres had been taken, up for the 'Association. , tj • The chairmans explained that he had taken up thi.s ; area to be held by the Association for unemployed youth Who did not come under the provisions of the Unemployment Act. The chairman’s action was approved. Mr J. A. Cooper, supervisor,-who was present ”by invitation, agreed to inspect the work 1 done at South ■ Terrace, and to ■ furnish a detailed report to the committee. • ■ •. V,

Tlie chairman moved a vote of thanks to the Rimu Dredge,Company for the gift of boring plant, seconded "by Mr Mclntosh and carried. ’
Mr Hyndman reported that a shaft had been put down by Messrs Griffiths and Robertson, on ,the Ross road. Tho distance sunk was thirty-one feet, with traces of 'gold throughout,' the water proving a, difficulty. It was decided to put the ’ boring plain, on this propcsitioh. ■ ‘
After long discussion on the . plant it was decided that the- chairman arrange to procure, directions from tlie Rimu and that a try out be given on the Ross road proposals. . f.' : A letter was received from a’ gold miner in relation to his sale of gold to a bank, the amount involved being over' loz. • All. corrbspohdence la connection ‘with 'the-'-' tfanhabtion were placed before the; co'njmittee, who ultimately decided-they could take no action.'sis thp matter was, outside tlifiir sphere .of action. .
