FOUR OFFICERS ARE CHARGED

SYDNEY, March 8,
Another case in which assurance company, officials are involved is occupying the City Court. There are four defendants, namely Sydney Smith, Mattisun Brain,. Oswald Gorkhill, and W illiam Page.,
They are charged with conspiracy to defraud the shareholders of the Commonwealth Life Amalgamated Assurance Association, Limited, of large sums of money. Oorkhill* and Page ai'e already awaiting trial on another charge, as cabled on February 28. The prosecuting solicitor, Mr Dovey, in outlining the evidence, described it as a plot to acquire the assets' of the Commonwealth Life Amalgamated Assurance Association, amounting to » quarter of a million sterling, the ultimate object being to effect an »ainalgation of that company with the Associated Dominions Assurance Company, whereof Oorkhill and Page are the chief officials. , The case is partly,heard.
