The death of a very old and esteemed resident cf Totara Flat, Mrs Isabella Cannon, occurred last evening at the Grey Hospital ,which she had entered only on Sunday last. As the day wore on yesterday the weather improved and this had an improving effect cn the attendance at the Methodist Fair in St. Andrew’s Hall, and resulted in the well stocked stalls’ contents meeting with a ready sale. There were a number of .competitions held and var.ous side show's to attract, while a dainty, afternoon tea was procurable. The fair was bought to a successful conclusion in the evening.

Tlie unemployment tax collections have given tlie Government 'Statistician, for the first time in the Dominion’s experience, an opportunity to asseaj the aggregate of private incomes in New Zealand. He places the total at £100,000,000 for the year ended March, 1932, wages being 69.5 millions; incomes from business and investment, 25.5 millions;' incomes received by women under £250, being mostly from investment, 5' millions; and undistributed company income, 3 millions. Pensions account for 1.7 millions. The estimate of incomes from other than salary or wages was reduced in the year under notice by 15 per cent.
