CAUGHT IN FLAMES
WOMAN’S PRESENCE OF MIND. AUCKLAND, March 6. Presence of ■ amiud probably saved the life of Mrs Lesley Smith, of Putaruru, when her clothes caught fire at her . home. Some fat, which Mrs Smith had been rendering down, caught- fire when being-removed from the oven. The fire spread to Mrs Smith’s clothes and she -was almost immediately enveloped in flames. She was alone at the time.
After tearing.- as much clothing off as pomible shew immersed herself in a hath of water. When the flames were subdued she covered the burns With baking soda, and covered herself with” a, rug and awaited the return of her father and mother, Air and A. Beg bib, to the house for . lunch. DrS. L. Haslctt ordered a motor ambulance" from, the Walikat-o Hernial and Airs .Smith, was transferred to that institution severely from burns all over the' body and face and bands.
