Darling reached his century in 149 minutes. Oakley’s was a fin. e display of driving, hi© innings lasting 76 minutts. He hit six boundaries. Darling batted 164 minutes, scoring twelve boundaries and giving a,n excellent exhibition, the only blemish being a very difficult chance to Alloa at cover when 48 off Brown. E'bekng mad e many , batsmanlike strokes. Barnett batted fifty.two minutes and hft one boundary. The last wicket partnership of Ebeling and Ironmonger created considerable enthusiasm and added forty runs in nineteen minutes, Ebeling driving .excellently and cleverly running for the strike. Ebeling was at the wicket 82 minutes -and hit eleven boundaries by powerful driving and pulling, with well-placed strokes. The attack looked unimpressive without Larwood and Allen. 'Brown secured 'the f average, but bowled many balls of a bad length. Tate kept a good length, -but lost whip off the pitch. Bowes was effective with a new; ball.

(Latest advices from Australia confirm earlier reports that the Nawa-b of Bata ucl i and Jack Hobbs will not accompany the M.C.C. team to New Zealand. The fitness of Larwood for play is a matter of doubt. During th e fifth test, his left foot gave him trouble.
Tihe New Zealand itinerary has been amended, owing to the team having to leave Auckland o,n April 4th. The dates of, tihfv Wellington and Christchurch matches Me unaltered. The 'Auckland match (second test) will be played on March 31, April 1 and 3.
