INQUIRY MADE AT SYDNEY. < (Australian Press Association.) , v SYDNEY, March 6. The full bench of the Industrial Arbitration Court to-day began an inquiry into working hours in all'industries with a view to the uniformity { and standardisation of the .'working V - week. Employing organisations genV erally sought a standard of forty-eight ’ ’ hours’ work, contending it woultPleaa to a stimulation-of indutry, while the unions claimed a reduction in sonic cases to 44, and in others to 30 hours, arguing that the mechanisation of industry and the existing long hours-ot yjjrlc are mainly responsible for the present high rate of unemployment.
