An exciting, chase took, place' near Wanganui recently between I .a motorcar. and a truck which; had. been stolen from the yard of a local- transport company, slates “The Herald.” The officials of tho company informed the oolice.at various phices on, route, and gave, chase in a' motor-bar. They caught up on-the lorry ;yt, Nukunaru, but the lorry turned up a x ; side road, the driver knowing by this time that! he- was being, pursued. He switched off : the headlight, hoping that he would not be seen. The men n the. car saw the lorry cut in- from the side road, round the corner at •yearly. 40 miles an hour, and skidding leneerously. They proceeded on, however and informed a police constable that the man in the lorry 'bought lie had eluded his pursuers. A °cw minutes later the lorry, was seen ipproaehing the main* road., again, hut in. reaching tho bridge the driver '.bund th.R,t;,a- motor-car hod apparently molten down on the structure,- blocking the road. The mo.n; ,in the lorry i v.ns just about to shunt tho o n r off the bridge again, when- men seemed- .to spring out from nowhere; and he had :o; turn around, and drive, back, to W?.nganui under arrest. ..
