WELLINGTON, March 3. On February 15 a Press Association telegram wag sent from Wellington reporting the hearing of the case Pei-civil Rhys Wingrove, secretary of the Tail-waggers’ Club v. Fred Ci’ossley,. claiming damages for slander. In the summary of the evidence of Mir T. C. A. Hi slop (Mayor of Wellington), it was stated- that Mr Hislop, replying to tlie' Chief Justice, said a civil action was pending against Wingj;ove, and there also would he a prosecution. This statement was incorrect and actually referred not to Wing, rove but to an unnamed adviser to the Tail-waggers’ Club, who was also under discussion. The error arose through a misreading, of the context in the course of condensing the, ir port. ,It was not suggested; at any time during, the hearing of- the case that a civil adtion or prosecution was pending against Mr, Wingrove.
