ACTION BY MASTER- GROCERS
AWARD TO INCLUDE EMPLOYEES
AUCKLAND, February 28,
[ The scope of the-Arbitration Act in relation .to chain and multiple stores was discussed at the annual conference of the New Zealand Master Grocers’ Federation. It was stated that when the Shops and Offices Act was originally framed, multiple or chain stores were not contemplated, and it was contended that these stores obtained definite advantages under the Act. Accordingly a revolution was passed .urging : the Arbitration Court to see that, in future, the employees of all ghain and multiple stores should be brought within the scope of the awards in the same manner as the employees of the independent stores. A protest was also voiced against the employment of assistants oil Sundays, and against the (present discrimination between the assistants employed by chain, stores and those employed by individual grocers. Ail address was given by'Air H. T. King, President of the Ntew Zealand Chemists Service Guild, on. the relations between chemists and grocers.
