The de- ' fenders are so snugly entrenched on the hillsides, -however, that the Japanese are unable to make headway. The Chinese''held lire as the Japanese repeatedly charged up the Pass, only to 'lie 'mowed down by machine guns almost at. point-blank range.
Chinese reports indicate a lull on the major part of the entire front over the past twenty-four hours.
