After a period of idleness lasting for six months, worl< commenced at Linton coal mine at Ohai yesterday naming, when nine men resumed. In anticipation of possible trouble, a party of police from Invercargill was present, but nothing untoward occurred-
By last evening’s goods train to Christchurch, two trucks of fat lambs were railed to Addington from Hokitika and two from South Westland, t*o the Islington Freezing Works. In addition one truck of fat cattle was railed from Hokitika to Addington, and one truck of fat pigs from Hokitika and one truck from Kumara, were railed to Addington.
As the result of an accident which occurred near Marsden at about noon on Monday, Mr Patrick O’Donnell, senr., of Murray Street, was admitted to the Grey River Hospital in a serious condition. He was driving a halfdraught horse, in a dray, when the horse stumbled, throwing Mr O’Donnell out. The horse then fell on top of him. His condition was reported to-day to be-unchanged.

In connection with the forthcoming Westland Competitions Society’s festival, Mr E. Moss and Mr T. L'earmont; have consented to act as the judges of the music and elocutionary sections respectively. The appointment of the judge of the dancing sectioji has yet to he made. Several classes which for some time past have attracted very few entries are to he deleted from the book of words, while a slight reduction in the prize money will also be affected.
The cases of infectious and other notifiable diseases reported in the Canterbury and West Coast health districts during the week ended noon on Monday showed an increase of eight as compared with the previous week. The total was 14, as follows: Canterbury, Scarlet fever, 6; diphtheria, 2; enteric poisoning, 1. West Coast: Diphtheria, 1. Three deaths from tuberculosis were reported, two in Canterbury and one in the West Coast district.

At St. Patrick’s church Creymouth yesterday, Rev. Father Holohan officiating, Joseph, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. Donaldson, of Ngahere, was married to Florence Ella, younger daughter of Mrs Reseigh and the late Mr T. Fox. The bride was attired in a frock of . floral chocolate marocain, with hat and shoes to tone, and carried a bouquet of flame abulition and maiden hair fern. Her sister, Ruby, who wore a bottle green frock with hat and shoes to tone, and carried a bouquet of lemon abulition and maiden hair fern, was bridesmaid. Mr R. Donaldson was best man. A reception was held at the residence of the bride’s parents. Mrs Reseigh received her c;u:st,j wearing a frock of black georgette and lace. Later the happy couple left by car for the Southern Lakes.
