GUARANTEE TO GROWERS

A question whether the Government wuis in a. position to indicate what it proposed to do in regard to the guarantee to fruitgrowers this year was asked by Air K. .I.’ Ilo’yoake (Government—Al otueka) in the Hout-.e yetstorday. lie said that -15,003 eases of fniit had already been shipped overseas. The Minister of Agriculture. the Hon. O. E. Macmillan, said it was prepared to •increase the gua.ra.ntee by 6d a. case. It- would then be 10s 6d for fancy and extra fancy and 7s for good grades, in New Zealand currency.
Last year the guarantee was lls cud 7s a. case respectively. It was decided to renew on the automatically-rcdUcc" hauls of 10:s and 6’ 6d, hut the Fruit Export Control Hoard sought to have the 'higher rates reinstated for the 'season. This year increased shipping and other charges have 4o he met and. it D claimed that the higher guarantee will make additional finance available.
