OPIUM RAID
ARREST OF THREEE CHINESE.
QUANTITY OF DRUG IS SEIZED. AUCKLAND. February 22. ■Three Chinese were arrested as a result of a raid by Detective-Sergeant McHugh and Detective Mills on premises at 76 Albert Street, City, late yesterday afternoon. The Chinese later appeared before Mr E. A. Craig, J.P., on charges connected with the smoking of opium, and were released on bail until this morning, win-u they will appear in the Police Court.
The three men were Chung Fun, who was charged with permitting hi« premises to be used for the smoking of opium, Low Poon and Harry Joon, who were each charged with being found without lawful excuse ion promises used for smoking opium. Chung Fun and Low Poon were also charged with having in their possession 10 packets of prepared opium. Chung Fun was released on bail of £IOO, and the other two men on sureties of £l2 10s each. The two detectives had no difficulty in entering the premises, and found the three men in the building. A quantify of prepared opium and various paraphernalia allegedly used in the smoking of ' opium, were seized.
