URGE TO RESTORE WAGE CUT,

AUCKLAND, February 24. Mayors and chairmen of seventeen local bodies in the Auckland metropolitan district conferred last evening on unemployment. The Mayor of Auckland (Mr Hutchison), read a letter from the Minister of Employment, who said that at present, the average weekly allocation was within the Board’s income, and that there was a good, but by no means excessive, cash balance. ]f the registrations increased largely in the winter months, it would be impossible to continue the Board’s present policy and allocations. He hoped to visit the main centres in the near future to discuss the problem.
Tli ft co ni'e re nee resolved to write to the Prime Minister stressing the urgency of the need for restoring the ten per cent.* cut, and informing him that local bodies were exasperated at the conditions which were developing among the relief workers as the result of the cuts. This resolution was strongly supported by all present and unanimously.
