Tho Government, without explanation, have removed General O'Dufty from the position of Chief of the Free State Civic Guard. H e has held the post since 1925.
Colonel Broy, Chief Supei'jnten tiem of the Civil Guard, replaces General O’Duffy as Chief.
Rumoui s of changes among the high officers of the Civic Guard have been in circulation for weeks The Government Party came in conflict with some of these officers during the civil war An organ of th e 1.R.A., has been demanding the dismissal of General O’Duffy. .The left wing of the Fianna Fail Party during recent months has been persistent in demanding hi* removal, which follows th e 'removal 0 f Colonel Xelligan, Chief of the Detective Division, a month ago. General O’Duffy took great interest in national athletics, and in the Olympic Games. He took a large part of the Civil Guards on a pilgrimage to 'Rome. He has perhaps /been best known through his supervision of the Irish : Sweepstake draw.
