U-BOAT FILM
GERMANY’S LATEST PRODUCTION
AN AID TO MILITARISM. BERLIN, February 18. Germany’s biggest film company, Ufa, which is controlled by Dr. Hugenberg, is playing an important part in the campaign to popularise militarism. The Chancellor, Herr Hitler, Dr Hugenberg, and the Vice-Chancellor, Herr von Papen, attended the premiere b? Ufa’s “Morgenrot,” which was privately shown at Doom on the ex-Kaiser’s birthday. The film deals with the U-boat campaign. A submarine commander refuses' to torpedo a sailing ship whose nationality is doubtful, but when he conies to the surface he is attacked by a British 'Q-ship, flying the Danish flag. Ihe Q-ship’s commander utters a sinister “Ha, ha!” as he watches the submarine emerge, but is such a. bad shot that he misses at point-blank range and is himself killed. Under cover of the burning ship a British destroyer arrives and rams the submarine, whose occupants declaim bitterly the consequences of their “humanity and chivalry.”
