SHARP REPRIMAND

A sharp reprimand to the members (if .a. •deputation • for •uiihece©>arily wasting time was given by‘Mr Forbes when the relief workers from Lower Hutt protested to-day against the Government’l3. policy in raising the exchange rate and 111 introducing'-the sales tax. When Air -W. Nash, ALP., was stating what iiad occurred at the meeting at Lower Hutt, which had resulted in the deputation. Air Forbes said: “I have read all these' attacks;, in the paper. - I did not know you were here for the purpose of repeating them.” Mi* Nash ; “The purpose is to place before von the feeling of the meetimv.”

Afr Forbes: “I read it in the paper.”

Afr Forbes afterwards said that it would.'be better to deal with things that could be remedied. Air Forfcfts objected to the. request that Air .Laird, who had read the greater portion of the meeting’s resolution, should finish it. ,He said: “There is nothing fresh about this sort o:i stuff.” Ho submitted ,to the reading, and when Mr Laird ,went on with his speech, the Prime ATinister asked: “How much longer are you going to speak?” Air Nash: “There are three more speakers.” •When Air Forbes still demurred Air Strand, the Mayor of Lower .ITutt said: “I must withdraw. I have acase to state, hint I can’t see why you' should be :.harassed ■'as von are now.”

Afr Strand said that die put; his case at the Prime ••Minister’s convenience.

Air Forbes again said that if a deputation came before them, they .wanted its ease put concisely. Answering the representations made, lie said that he believed that what was being, done was in the best- interests of the people. While they were charged with being callous, they were only human beings. Tlio matter.raised affecting the relief -workers would he put before the Minister for Unemployment.
