ADDINGTON STOCK SALE.
FURTHER PRICE DROP
CHRISTCHURCH, February 22.
The trend of live stock prices at today’s Addington sale was again down-, ward. There were some marked drops in prices. •
Nearly four hundred head of beef were forward. The quality was mixed. Attractive bandyweights were scarce. There was a keener demand for these. The others showed a further easing.
Best heavy bullocks sold to £7 17s 6d; prime £6 17s 6d to £7 7s 6d; medium £4 2s 6d to £5 17s 6d; light from £3 7s 6d.‘ Best cows sold from £3 2s 6d to £4 7s 7d; one extra heavy to £6 2s 7d; prime cows £2 15s to £3 2s 6d; light from £2 7s 6d. Best heavy heifers sold to £6 17s 6d; prime £3 17s 6d to £4 17s 6d; medium £2 15s to £3 7s 6d; inferior from 50s. There was a smaller offering of store lambs, mostly of inferior quality. Buyers were keener for forward conditioned lots, which were limited to a few pens. The prices generally were equal to last week’s rates, despite there being a lower schedule l ruling for fat lambs,
There was a medium yarding of store sheep, and a good attendance of buyers. Sales were freely made at the commencement but passings were frequent at the dozing stages. The fat lambs offered comprised a medium entry chiefly long-distance consignments of -light weights, and plain lots. Owing-to a reduced ’ schedule, there was a general easing off of Is per nead. ■Heavier weights were not meeting the usual competition, the handy weights being more popular with butchers. Extra heavy prime lambs to 15s 7d; prime heavy 13s toT4s'6d; medium 11s to 12s 6:1; light from 9s 6d. Over four thousand fat sheep were penned. Tbe quality left a lot to he desired, frlain sorts were forward in abundance. Wethers were scarce and met keener competition. The other sorts were’ easier by Is i-Ocl to 1 2s per bead.
There was a medium ‘yarding of porkers' with a. slightly -firmer demand. Baconers were in good supply. Values were easier, porkers were selling from 21s 6d' tri 27s '6d; heavier 27s 6d to 34s 6d; choppers 38s 6d to £4 3s 6d; baConors*37s 6d to 42s 6d; heavier to 53s 6d.
