PUBLIC WORKS PORTFOLIO
WELLINGTON, February 21
Some comment is current in lobby circles over the portfolio of Public Works. It wias'the'original intention of Mr Fo.’bes that the office should be held permanently by Mr Macmillan., following the assumption by Mr Coates of the fortfolio of finance. •, Up to that time, 'Mr Macmillan had been acting as Minister of Public Works.
It is now learned .that to all intents and purpose*, Mr Coates has since Christmas, been Minister of Public Works. He intends to remain in that position until the redistribution of portfolios, which will' automatically arise out of the appointment of the new Minister after the end of the session.
