Australia’s Antarctic claim is arousing keen interest m Norway. All Antarctic expert, Air Bjarne Aagaard, state,? that the Government will probably acquiesce with reservations, but a, decision will be withheld until the whole problem is ■ considered. With J3.iL.iu already possessing the Falkland and Ross sectors, universal recognition of Australia’s claim will mean that the Empire will have taken a step towards making the Antarctic continent British. Mr Aagaard contends that the Norwegian whalers in January, 1931, discovered Queen Aland’s Land a few hours before Riiser Larsen is erroneous, ft will be an important question for Norwegian whalers if Australia tries to institute a system of license.
COMMENT BY MAWSON. (Received this day at 9 a.MI.) LONDON, February 21. Sir Douglas M.uwson commenting on Mr Aagaard’g remarks in relation to priority, said that when the full facts were published in the near future in detailed scientific reports, the position will be plainer than ever.
