AVIATION PERSONAGES IN RACES.

LONDON, February 16

At London Air Park, Feltham, on Boxing Day, the latest small aeroplanes wei'e used in races and demonstrations. ' Ouq of the novel contests was a race between a hors e and an aeroplane. Four of the newest types of light aircraft—two-seater mono, planes, powered with 600 c.e. motorcycle engines of only about six horse, power-took part. Among those who joined in watching what it is hoped to make a popular sport were. Flight Lieutenant G. H. tSainforth, holder of th e world’s speea record, the Hon. Airs Victor Bruce, who flew round tth e world in a Blackburn Bluebird, and Flight Lieutenant C. W. A. Scott, who made a record flight from Australia t-o England. The first rac,e of four laps was won by Mr Lowe-Wylde, the designer ana constructor of th e new craft. The little ni a chi pes skimmed along, sometimes within inches of the turf.

Flight Lieutenant Stain forth and Mr Kay e Don delighted the crowd with a match over throe laps. Mr Kaye Don won by 11 seconds.

The two competitors followed totally different method.-; in turning round the pylons. While Kaye Don banked steeply, Flight Lieutenant Stain form preferred th e methods followed in the last Schneider Trophy race.

The meeting ended with a one-lap rac e between a horse and an aeroplane, and Colon.'! the Mailer of iSempill, on his horse, w-s given half th e lap start. Flight Lieutenant Stainfortlh went “all out” and beat the hors 6 by two-fifths of a second.
