MEETING AT CHRISTCHURCH

CHRISTCHURCH, February 18

The Canterbury Education Board m et on Friday- morn'ng, when Mr 11. J. Bignall presided. Also present were Messrs G. W. Armitage, W. P. Spencer. iS. Smith. J. J. Hurley, §• Baird, iS. R. Evison, W. A. Banks, (R. Wild, J. W. Preen, 0. S. Thompson,' and G. Benstead.

Appointments made included—Ahaura. Miss E. Dunn • Hokitika District High School, Mr F. L. Cassidy and Mim F. L. Qhesterman; Kokirl, Mr H. I. Turnbull ; Runanga, Mr P. D. Chapman.

Resignations accepted included.—jn-h. honnie. Mr H. I. Turnbull; Tay’.orville, MKs M. Knowles.

The Kanieri School Committee asked that pome ponds should be conveyed from ’Lower Kokatahj to Kanieri. It was decided that no obTctoiu should be raised, provided it could bo done without cost to the Board or Department. The Buildings Committee reported that an expenditure of un to £5 fn r calcimining work at Hokitika School b a d been approved. New buildings w°i’o to bp provided at the Vgahere’School .at a cost of. £?3. and £26 15s was granted for renwal work. The sr.rn of £l2 was granted, to' the Bell Hill School fo r the erection of outbuildings, A copy of the recort on th 9 v'ork on the poH\ o,f the Hokit-ka School, s coom^anied by a request fo* a. grant of £153. it was. renorted, h*d been forwarded to the department. An annlication from th? sam. Q school for £l3 15s for another doorway was approved. _ A letter was received from the Humphreys Committee thanking the Board for sanctioning residency improvement and recording *ts appreciation of the promptness with which the work was carried out.
