ACCIDENT TO STEER RIDER
KAIKOHE, February 15
'An unusual accident occurred during the steer-aiding competition at the Kaikohe show on Saturday.
One of the riders,- a Maori named Joe Toia, was staking to his mount well when it gave an extra rough display which jerked the rider’s body forward causing his head to come low, although he retained his seat firmly, Just as Toia’s head was down the animal threw its’ head up and back, striking the rider on the forehead. He was immediately unseated, and in falling was trampled on by the steer. Toia was found to be suffering from severe concussion and a wound on the head. His injuries were dressed by Nurse Hall, who ordered his removal to the Kawakawa Hospital. An Xray examination is to be made as soon aq ‘the injured man's condition permits.
Toia is a married man with a large family and is .employed on a farm at MataranaJ
