CONCLUDING RESULTS.

YESTERDAY’S PLAY,

The weather yesterday afternoon again interfered with the iplay for a short time, a heavy shower driving in the players and . .slowing up the'-green. It, however, held up for the rest of the afternoon.

In the pairs semi-finals, Peek (Greymouth) and'Head (Westport) played an even game, .victory resting with Head by a margin of 15 points to 11. Mercer -ibid Scott, . both of Greynionlth, and members in the same rink, played off their' game victory resting with Scott by 22 points to 21. RINKS FINAL. This game was commenced shortly before 4 o’clock, and the large gallery of onlookers were treated to one of '(lie fluent exhibition® of team work ever given on the fecal green. Mercer’s team played a wonderful game- and fairly overshadowed their opponents. Th score went up by singles, and Stevenson did noFscore till'the seventh head, the score then being 8 to 1.. Holding their own all through and playing very steadily the Greymouth team held a leading position, continuing to score- in., singles, till on the 17th. head 1 a four gave an unassailable position of 19- points to 4. Then Hokitika scored a 2,5, and a three on the-final head, the score being Mercer 19, Stevenson T 4.

The winners thoroughly deserved their win their exhibition being a very fine one. They therefore win the Rinks Championship and hold the Usher Cuip for the yeiar. The winners, who were also successful at last year’s tournament, consist' of Messrs W. G. Scott, F. G. Davies, D. Stevenson, L: G. Mercer • Os).

TO-DAY'S PLAY. Owing to Scott and Stevenson being engaged in the rinks final, and they are in the final' for the pairs, 'the latter final could not he played and is to take place thite morning, those left in being Scott and Stevenson (Grey) and Powell and Head (Westport). After falling heavily most of the night, the'rain stopped at- 7 o’clock and by 8 a.Pi. -the caretaker was rolling a wave of water in front of the roller. By 9 a.m. the green was in a fit condition for play and at 9.15 a.m. a 1 start was made with the final of the pairs competition, the contestants being Scott and Stevehson (Grey) and Powell and Head (Westport). The green continued to dry up and improve and as tile game wore on was in capital order though slow, .The play was of a very High order,the teams being well matched, At,the 7th head the score was Scott 9, Head 7; at the lltli head, 12 allat 'the 14th head the score was I'4 all. .Then Scoit got throe in the next Head. At the 15th head, Scott got a three, -and Head replied with a one and a four, the score being 19— 17 in favour of Head on the 17th. On the 18th -Scott got four, the score being 21-19 in liis favour.

On the 19th Scott got two, 23—19. Scott got a single on the 20th.

THE SINGLES

The contest for the singles championship of the West Coast centre was commenced at 9.15 a.m. between Leach (Runangi) and Whibley (Greymouth). Leach won by 17 to 10. The second game was started soon after heween Whibley (Grey) and Breeze (Hokitika) and was an even contest. At the seventh head the score was four all; at the eleventh bead, 6 all. On the fourteenth head Dreo'.e was 8 and Whibley 7. On the 16th Breeze got two making it 10—8. One to Breeze, two to Wibley and three to Breeze made the 19th 14—10. They were 14 all at the last head. AN APPRECIATION. The following letter was handed to. the secretary of, the West Coast tournament committee (Mr A. E l . Benjamin) on behalf of 'the . East Coast visiting bowlers, who left for home this morning:— . On behalf of the visiting bowlers, taking mart- in the recent tournament, we wish to express our appreciation of the excellence of .(the greens provided. We were agreeably surprised to find the high standard to which the green at the Mental Hospital has been brought. It was in our opinion in every way satisfactory and contributed, ini no small manner to the success of the tournament. We also much appreciated, the use of'the buildings and Tie shelter provided there, particularly las the weather was not all that could have been desired. Would you' also express to the ladies who so ably presided and attended to the morning and afternoon teas, our very great .appreciation of their many kindnevses to mi? aIR this being extended with the usual West Co a fit hospitality.
