FORD LOOKS AHEAD
GROWING CAR PARTS ON FARMS
DETROIT, February 10.' Air Henry Ford lias outlined an astonishing plan- to “grow many automobile parts on farms.”
This, lie will open new sources of revenue for farmers, and will utilise agricultural by-products. Mr Ford believes that steering wheels, distributor box)esj and other parts can. be made from products of the soya bean, the bodies from cellulose (produced from cornstalks), with woven wire reinforcement inside and steel reinforcement at the .dorrs. These bodies would supplant the heavier steel ones. Mr Ford for many years has been advocating decentralisation of industrial processes. His aim is to replace huge mass production factories by thousands of factories in rural, and suburban districts, which would 1 ship parts to designated assembly plants.
One great factory would produce engines and other vita] parts.
